Ideology DLC coming this April!

We are excited to bring a much loved and requested DLC to RimWorld Console Edition - Ideology!

Ideology makes your RimWorld story into your story more than ever before we can’t wait to see what console players create.

RimWorld has always been about role-playing and Ideology DLC was designed by RimWorld creator, Tynan, to be a system that lets players explicitly express different ways of life and further give players a sense of authorship over their stories.

Ideology allows players to create their own unique belief system for their colony. Choose from a wide range of options, such as religious beliefs, social norms and even unique clothing styles. Create a peaceful and egalitarian society, or a brutal and authoritarian one.

The possibilities are endless.

Building on the theme of players expressing their stories, we are also really excited to announce we’ll be releasing the next RimWorld Console Edition free update. Including some much requested content such as “Custom Scenarios” alongside many quality-of-life improvements. But that is news for another day, today is all about Ideology!

Beliefs, Precepts, Memes

Beliefs, Precepts, and Memes are the building blocks of the powerful customisation tools that are central to the Ideology DLC. With these tools, players can define the core beliefs that guide their colony's development, from the values they hold dear to the rituals they perform.

Beliefs are the foundation of a colony's ideology, providing a framework for how colonists interact with each other and their environment. Players can define their colony's beliefs from scratch, choosing from a variety of pre-defined beliefs or creating their own.

Precepts are specific rules that reflect a colony's beliefs, such as "Don't harm animals" or "Honor the dead". These precepts guide the actions and decisions of colonists, providing a sense of structure and order to the colony's culture.

Memes are the cultural practices and symbols that reflect a colony's beliefs and precepts. They include things like clothing, artwork, and music, and are an essential part of creating a unique and vibrant colony culture. Players can customize their colony's memes to reflect their beliefs and precepts, making every colony feel truly unique.

Rituals, Dryads and the Gauranlen Tree

Ideology introduces a new set of rituals and traditions that can be performed by the colony. These can range from simple ceremonies to grand festivals, and can have a significant impact on the mood and well-being of the colonists.

Again everything is customisable. You can build temples or beautiful orchards with drifting leaves. You might hold beautiful sky lantern festivals or vicious gladiator duels. Make use of your favourite colonists’ strengths and skills by assigning them formal social roles. Each belief system defines special roles that believers can take on.

Players will now have to contend with the beliefs and values of their colonists, which can lead to conflicts and difficult decisions. For example, if a colony has a strict no-violence policy, they may struggle to defend themselves against raiders. Conversely, a colony that values strength and power may be more successful in combat, but at the cost of potentially mistreating their own people.

With any luck you might find the Gauranlen tree, a rare tree that might occasionally sprout near your colony. Discover dryads, creatures who have symbiotic relationships with the trees, and who can be controlled and grown in different castes to perform duties for your colony. Embark on a quest to try out your Spacedrone hacking ability and experience terminal-worshipping in neighbouring tribal villages to ultimately lead you to the new Archonexus ending.

Quests

As you grow powerful, you’ll hunt for the venerated relics of your belief system in new multi-part quests. Find the relic in its ancient temple and bring it back to attract wealthy pilgrims to your colony and help you convert even more people to your beliefs.

Ideology's arrival on console will be accompanied by a free new content update, for all players, which includes custom scenarios for the first time on console.

The Ideology DLC adds a new layer of depth and storytelling to Rimworld Console Edition allowing players to create rich, detailed cultures for their colonies.  We can’t wait to see the stories you create!
